One-command setup · Windows and macOS
VS Code + Space Router
Model selection: Opus uses claude-opus-5; Sonnet uses claude-sonnet-5. This catalogue has no Haiku route, so its slot is clearly labelled Sonnet (Haiku fallback). After repairing an older setup, fully close VS Code, reopen it, and start a new chat.
Windows setup supports local, domain and Microsoft Entra ID (Azure AD) accounts. If an earlier setup failed with a SID configuration error, rerun the one-command installer below. No Windows or editor upgrade is needed for this fix.
Set up VS Code with the Claude Code and Codex extensions, both connected to Space Router, in one command.
Quick install — one command
The installer checks and installs or updates official VS Code Stable and the Claude Code/Codex extensions, using direct API keys. Close VS Code yourself before updating; setup does not kill it. Failed download verification keeps the existing application. Configuration is privately backed up, preserving unrelated settings, session history and existing login metadata. Supplying a key switches that assistant to Space Router. Windows has isolated verification; macOS still needs real-device acceptance.
- Windows: press the Windows key, type
powershell, press Enter. A blue or black window opens. Right-click inside it to paste the command, then press Enter. - macOS: press ⌘ Command + Space, type
terminal, press Enter. A white or black window opens. Press ⌘ V to paste the command, then press Return.
sk- keys, or press Enter to preserve existing configuration. Supplied routes must pass a real request before they are reported connected.

Which keys to paste
The installer asks for a Claude key and a GPT key, plus optional Grok. Paste both to use both, or press Enter to skip the one you do not have. Skipping a key does not skip the app or extension installation; it preserves its existing configuration. Claude and GPT need separate keys because pricing differs by group; a Claude key cannot be used for GPT and a GPT key cannot be used for Claude.
- The Claude key drives the Claude Code extension.
- The GPT key drives the ChatGPT / Codex extension.
For the Codex extension, the installer writes the same Space Router configuration as the console’s Use Key instructions (provider, your GPT key, GPT model list) and verifies it with a real Codex request. No ChatGPT sign-in and no gateway software are needed; the extension reads the shared Codex configuration in your user folder.
Create keys in the Space Router dashboard under Tokens, then Create, choosing the matching group.
Open VS Code
After setup, fully close and reopen VS Code, then click the Claude or Codex icon in the left activity bar. If the Codex icon is hidden, press ⌘ Command + Shift + P and run Codex: Open Codex Sidebar. A panel is verified connected to Space Router only when its matching key passed setup verification.
Prefer just one tool?
If you only want one assistant in the terminal instead of VS Code, use the single-tool guides: the Claude Code guide or the Codex guide. Each has its own one-command install and full manual steps.
